John William Fleet III. Charged with animal cruelty for allegedly pouring rubbing alcohol over a puppy and setting it on fire. The 5-month-old pit bull mix was burned. Its neck, ears, whiskers were burned off, and one of its corneas was seared. The animal also had been burned repeatedly with a cigarette.It may be disfigured, and possibly blind in one eye.
Please don't let this horrific crime go unpunished. If he can inflict this kind of abuse on an innocent animal, he could do it to a human. Help enforce stiffer penalties for these types of crimes.

TRUCKERS HELP ANIMALS

I don't know how many of you have heard of Operation Roger- it is a network of volunteer truckers who help transport rescue pets to their forever homes or new rescue facilities. They transport pets all over the country and even to Canada. I know many of us would like to rescue some of the dogs we see everywhere, but are unable to due to the distance. Katie has two grown cats- indoor, declawed, fixed the whole deal and she can no longer have them because of Parker's fragile lungs and lack of immune system- sooooooo
I am trynig to find a home for them. The girls are litter-mates, sisters. Daphne is a blue tortoise with beige markings and a little white and Velma (Scooby Doo if you haven't guessed) wears a black tuxedo and has white whiskers. They are about two years old and I just can't take them to the Shelter. The Humane Society has too many cats already and won't take them and I don't know where to turn. Do you have any cat-lover friends who might adopt them or are you low on cats and need two sweet ones to love? They come with auto-waterer and lots of cat food and litter and boxes. I wish I could take them but the baby will also be at my house so no cats here either.
Hope you are all well. Things are sort of the pits here. Good news on the baby but my sister is in Hospice with brain cancer and Mama is fading fast and will no longer eat. She is in a nursing home in Shelby. What a life.

Tonight I spoke with my sister and she told me a story...a story that touched my heart immensely and made me belief in the power of a single person.

Tia was at the vet picking up her own dog Hercules who'd had surgery. While there - there were two men, one old and one young...and the older man spoke no English but it was clear from the tears in his eyes that his dog was in distress. Tia spoke with the younger man and he informed her that the other man, an Uncle was about to put his dog to sleep because they could not afford the expensive surgery...a dog who had travled from Israel with his owner. For thirteen years his companion. The older man's dog had been attacked by another dog and had serious injuries. But they could not afford the care. My sister daily witnesses the inhumane treatment of animals - the constant abandonment of dogs by human owners. So to Tia - now witnessing someone who clearly loved their dog being forced to put this dog to sleep due to lack of funds was more than she could bear. She immediately and promptly told the young man to tell his Uncle she would pay for the surgery. $1,000. No questions asked.

We can't all do this. My sister is not a wealthy person. But she does routinely give of herself.

She is an angel.

When I read the "Good News" story by Kristen Hampton on WBTV, I was so happy that someone in Gastonia was going to arrange to have the leg removed for the 5 legged puppy. Shortly after that I read she was going to be sold to a freak show and my heart broke. I impulsively picked up the phone and called Mr. Owensby and asked him how much would it take for him to sell the puppy to me? When he said he had already spent $1000 of the $3000 that he was offered, I offered him $4000 so that he could return the money and still have $3000.

You know, I just felt that I had a responsibility to be the voice of Lilly by doing everything in my power to stop her from going to a freak show to be gawked, laughed and stared at all day and night. I have been moved, touched and overwhelmed by the response of so many wonderful people for this adorable puppy. Obviously, I am not alone because so many people have donated to share in the burden/opportunity of keeping this endearing puppy from a miserable life. Actually, I don’t think she would have lived much past the July 4th weekend since she was barely 4 weeks old. And needed special care to be weaned from her mother.

Thank you for taking the time out to read my story of Lilly, the once 5 legged puppy who is now simply a 4 legged puppy. Thank you for the donations you are making to the Animal League, any donations given to Lilly that go beyond my expenses will go directly to the Animal League of Gaston County in order to support other animals that need help, too.

The smallest is Hercules he's about 6 lbs and approximately 2 yrs old.
The gray dog is the largest and he's about 3 yrs old and around 14 lbs.
The other is a female about 7-8 lbs and around 2-3 yrs old.

While I was at the shelter waiting for it to open, I saw a young man with a young, gorgeous, well-behaved female dog. I was hoping against hope that he wasn't planning on dumping her into the shelter. I went up to him and asked what's up with the dog. He told me he adopted the dog out of shelter a week ago. He lives with his mother, who refuses to have the dog in the house. So, this sweet, friendly dog was outside 24/7. Why is she being dumped? because she kept trying to jump over the fence. No surprise there. I told the man I would network her and took some pics. How ironic that one of the most intelligent of all dog breeds winds up in the hands of a totally clueless person.
Sasha was very friendly and mellow when I saw her. The man said she is good with dogs.

I saved a dog in terrible shape yesterday from dying in the 100 degree plus heat. She was wondering aimlessly near a busy street (Central) and was overheated and desperate for water. She was licking the curb for any form of liquid, it was heartbreaking. She collapsed in a parking lot she was so tired and hot. I managed to get her to come to me, she was exhausted.

Someone has not taken care of this poor dog in any way. Her ears are raw with fly strikes, and her coat is in terrible condition, she has been mistreated. This dog could make a 100% turn around if given the chance. She is wonderful! She listens to commands, she seems to like the car, she walks on a leash, and she knows how to sit and lay down. All she wants is love. She has had a horrible life thus far. Can someone please let her live out her golden years in peace? She would make a great companion!!! All she needs is a good grooming and love, and he will give you years of loyalty in return. She is a medium sized Shepherd mix, cream colored,as he seems to be older, probably a senior, she is very very sweet, and is a good girl!!!

This dog was picked up by animal control. I fed her, gave her shelter from the burning sun that would have killed her, gave her water, and also simply talked to her and gave him some love before he went away, and do you know the one thing that made her wag her tail was?? TELLING HER SHE WAS A GOOD GIRL AND HUGGING AND KISSING HER!! THAT'S IT! Not the food, not the water, and not the shade, but my hands on her, petting her, and simply showing the minimal amount of affection. She simply put her head in my lap and wagged her tail, looking at me with those gorgeous brown eyes, saying "THANK YOU FOR BEING SO KIND". Love is all these guys ask for people. This dog was taken to the Inland Valley Humane Society, the address below with her impound #. She is approx. 15 years old! This dog is a survivor, give her a second chance at life, please...She deserves it!

Dogs in a Deadly Crossfire

Confronted by the family pet, police often shoot first and ask questions later, reports Radley Balko. Among hundreds of recent victims: Labradors, Wheaten terriers, and a five-pound Chihuahua.

Beginning next year, police departments in Maryland will be required to report to the governor's office every time they kill a dog during a drug raid. That requirement is part of a new law pushed by Cheye Calvo, the mayor of the small town of Berwyn Heights.

Calvo proposed the legislation because police officers conducted a particularly violent raid last summer on his home in Prince George's County after intercepting a package of marijuana at a delivery-service warehouse. The cops then completed the delivery themselves to the address on the package. As it turns out, the house belonged Calvo, who had no connection to the drugs. The package was part of a botched distribution scheme in which an accomplice working for the delivery service was supposed to have intercepted it before it was delivered.

“You’re kicking down doors, barging in with guns, and when animals do what animals do, they become collateral damage.”

The raid made headlines around the world, not only because the police mistakenly busted into the home of a sitting mayor (believe it or not, that has happened elsewhere), but because they killed Calvo's two black Labradors, Peyton and Chase. Peyton was shot four times. Chase was shot twice, once from behind as he fled.

Within days, Calvo and his family were cleared of any wrongdoing, but Prince George's officials have steadfastly refused to apologize. As Calvo later told a local TV station, "The county has defended their actions, saying basically that what they did to us is standard operating procedure. That's the chilling message."

And, unfortunately, it appears to be true—the shooting of dogs by police has become troublingly common across the country. My beat as a journalist includes police misconduct, and I've noticed an increase in media accounts of police officers shooting the family pet—with a notable lack of remorse or disciplinary consequences. This sad trend appears to be a side effect of the new SWAT, paramilitary focus in many police departments, which has supplanted the idea of being an “officer of the peace.”

"I think all of this drug-war imagery has produced a mentality that didn't used to exist," says Norm Stamper, who was police chief of Seattle from 1994 to 2000 and served 28 years in the San Diego Police Department.

"It's 'I'm part of a war, I have a mission, and nothing is going to get in the way of me completing that mission.' You're kicking down doors, barging in with guns, and when animals do what animals do, they become collateral damage. Too many officers have gotten rather callous about it, I'm afraid."

The raid on Calvo's home was actually the second in 10 months in which police in Prince George's County burst into a private home during a drug raid, shot and killed the family dog, then realized they had raided the wrong house. But national statistics on police-involved pet shootings are difficult to come by. Randal Lockwood of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recently told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he sees 250 to 300 incidents per year in media reports, and estimates another 1,000 aren't reported.

The Indianapolis Star reported that between 2000 and 2002, police in that city shot 44 dogs. It's impossible to say how many of those were pets (versus strays), or in how many of those shootings the dog may have actually presented a serious threat to the officer or someone else. But in too many reported accounts of dog shootings, it seems doubtful that lethal force was necessary.

It is easy to imagine that some breeds of dog might legitimately pose a threat to police officers in volatile situations. But that Calvo’s two black labs posed any serious risk to an armored, heavily armed SWAT team stretches the bounds of credulity. The same can be said of a host of recent dog shootings in which a police officer said he felt “threatened” and had no choice but to use lethal force, including the killing of a Dalmatian (more than once), a yellow Lab , a springer spaniel, a chocolate Lab, a boxer, an Australian cattle dog, a Wheaten terrier, an Akita, and even a Jack Russell terrier. Not small enough for you? How about a 12-pound miniature dachshund? Or a five-pound chihuahua?

"We're definitely hearing about these stories more often," says Adam Goldfarb, who directs the Pets at Risk program for the Humane Society of the United States. "It's hard to say if that's because it's happening more often, or because it's just getting more coverage when it does."

Last year, for example, a local news station in Oklahoma aired security-camera footage of a police officer pulling into driveway of dog owner Tammy Christopher—just to ask for directions. In the video, Christopher's Wheaten terrier runs out from the house, and it's difficult to tell whether the dog is charging the officer or bounding out to greet him. But the officer was on the dog's property. And instead of merely getting back into his car, he pulled out his gun and shot the dog dead. The officer was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Police have recently killed pets while merely questioning neighbors about a crime in the area, cutting across private property while in pursuit of a suspect, and after responding to a false burglar alarm. It doesn't matter if your dog is loose or leashed, or if you've posted "Beware of Dog Warnings." Last August in Colorado Springs, police entered a woman's house after her children let them in to look for a fugitive. The children locked the family dog in the bathroom with their mother, who was showering, and warned the police that the dog was defensive. The police opened the bathroom door anyway, the dog bit one of them, and they shot and killed it, inches from where the woman was showering. The fugitive wasn't in the home, and the owner said she's never heard of him.

If dangerous dogs are so common, one would expect to find frequent reports of vicious attacks on meter readers, postal workers, firemen, and delivery workers. But according to a spokesman from the United States Postal Service, serious dog attacks on mail carriers are vanishingly rare. Bites do happen, but postal workers are given training on how to distract dogs with toys, subdue them with voice commands, or, at worst, incapacitate them with Mace. Mail carriers are shown a two-hour video and given instruction on how to recognize and read a dog's body language, how to differentiate between aggressive charging and playful bounding, and how to tell a truly dangerous dog from a merely territorial one.

Few police departments offer this kind of training, though groups like the ASPCA and the Humane Society say they'd be more than happy to provide it. "New York is the only state I know of that mandates formalized training, and that's during academy," says Joseph Pentangelo, the ASPCA's assistant director for law enforcement, who also served 21 years with the NYPD before retiring in 2001. "There are some individual departments in other parts of the country that avail themselves of our training, but not many. Not enough." (Omaha, Nebraska, just recently started requiring training after 39 dog-shooting incidents in little more than a year.)

Even during highly charged police raids on houses guarded by aggressive dogs, it's hard to see how shooting them is the best option. A grazing shot will only make the dog angrier. A miss imperils other officers and innocent bystanders. During a terribly tragic drug raid in Lima, Ohio, last year, an officer shot and killed the suspect's two pit bulls shortly after the drug team entered the house. Another officer mistook the shots for hostile fire, and sprayed bullets into a bedroom, where a 26-year-old unarmed woman named Tarika Wilson had dropped to her knees, as ordered, while holding her 1-year-old son. Wilson died, the infant lost a hand.

"Putting aside the humanitarian concerns, shooting the dog just doesn't seem tactically expeditious," says Pentangelo. "Something like a tranquilizer dart would get the dog out of the way quickly without risking any collateral damage. I guess part of the problem is that pets just aren't viewed as real important."

There's no question that in some circumstances, a police officer may have no choice but to shoot an aggressive animal. The problem is that in too many of these cases, the use of lethal force isn't the last option taken, but the first.

Wow, this is totally amazing and to think that he would be dead now.. Please look at this picture from the one from yesterday.. God what a little love can do. In less then 24 hours Rocky is like a new dog. He is still in pretty delicate shape and not totally sure what his complete recovery will look like, but there is such promise in this dog now. Rocky will need a good, loving home to go to in a few weeks.. Please network him for that perfect place to call home.. He is not 21, but more like 12 they believe. Still a senior for sure, but he has more life left in him.. Lets pull together for his new home the way we did for his life..

Nancy, thanks for trying to help Lilly. I will help network this poor baby too. I wish I could take her, but I already have three little dogs. She is adorable and should be very adoptable, so I�ll do what I can. Have you thought of taking her to mobile adoption events? A friend of mine (where I found one of my Chihuahuas) is Laurel Kinder at Kinder4Rescue, and I�m cc�ing her on this. Perhaps she would let you take Lilly to one of her adoption events at Maxwell Dogs in Studio City. I don�t know her policy about that though. You can check her out and see if that�s an option at her website at www.kinder4rescue.org . She�s amazing and has the expertise to help make sure Lilly went to a good, qualified home. We have to make sure that needy animals are not put with the wrong kind of people, as that happens all too often.

Lilly, the cutest little rescued Terripoo, needs to find her forever home. She had a home for many years but then, through no fault of her own, she found herself at the very scary, very high kill South Los Angeles City shelter. She was dropped off wearing little red bows in her hair and red nail polish. The poor dog was there for weeks, behind closed doors in the medical room. I rescued her just minutes before she was going to be euthanized.

Lilly was completely shut down, depressed and traumatized when she first got out of the shelter. She seemed to constantly be looking for the people who used to be her family. It took her a bit of time, but thanks to her foster home, Lilly has blossomed into a happy, outgoing, loving and trusting little pup. She really wants to find her very own person or family who she can give her heart to.

Lilly is a first class snuggler and major lap dog. When you pet her and then stop, she will look at you with imploring eyes, lift her little paw and tap you as if to say "but i wasn't done being petted yet!". She loves just hanging out and being next to her person.

Lily is an easy dog---easy to care for and easy to love. She has no bad habits, loves all people and gets along with dogs and cats. She has lots of energy and is very fast and sprightly on her walks. In the house, she is calm, well behaved and has good house manners.

We think Lilly is about 8 years old. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, in good general health and has had lab work done. There is an application and adoption fee.

This attitude of throw away live pets and domesticated animals is totally disgusting to me!

Well, it didn't work out quite as planned but the important thing is that Velvet is safe and in ISO at a vet in Simi Valley.

The reason she's in Simi Valley and not with Stacy in San Diego is that Caroline Squire of the Simi Valley group Animal Rescue Volunteers went to SLA to rescue a dog who had sadly been euthanized. However, a friend had told Caroline about Velvet and she took one look at her and decided she couldn't leave her there. So she bailed her out and drove her straight to the vet.

If you look at these photos of Velvet taken by Caroline, you can see why she acted so quickly. Her eyes are swollen completely shut as her eye problem spread to the other one.

It's clear that her condition had taken a dramatic turn for the worse in the past few days. Not only were her eyes swollen shut, she has pneumonia in both lungs and there is a concern that she may even have distemper. Obviously we are hoping that is not the case.

Caroline said she is eating--which she didn't at the shelter--and is even wagging her tail.

Velvet has been renamed Zeeta. She has had x-rays and blood work done and is already wracking up a sizeable vet bill.

Caroline also sent me a link to a short video she took of Zeeta at the vet's office. You can watch it by clicking on the link below at the bottom of this page.

WE WILL KNOW MUCH MORE IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. I JUST WANTED TO GET THIS EMAIL OUT SO EVERYONE IS IN THE LOOP ABOUT WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON. I HAD NO IDEA THIS WOULD HAPPEN BUT I AM VERY THANKFUL THAT VELVET/ZEEVA IS OUT AND SAFE.

Stacy very kindly stepped up to help Velvet when nobody else offered. She would have done right by Velvet but we were all overtaken by events.

ZEETA/VELVET IS A VERY LUCKY GIRL. SHE HAD A TERRIFIC RESCUER READY TO SAVE HER LIFE BUT THEN ANOTHER WHO WAS AT THE SHELTER WAS SO CONCERNED UPON SEEING HER THAT SHE DECIDED TO TAKE THIS SWEET GIRL ON THE SPOT.

Even though Zeeta/Velvet is very sick, this is not the terrified dog I saw in the shelter 11 days ago (right.) If you look at the new video, Zeeta radiates calm. Her head is held high, and she just seems very peaceful. She isn't shaking with fear and doesn't appear in distress, despite her swollen eyes. She looks like she's just hanging out on the examination table.

I'm so happy to report that Tillie is making great strides and coming out of her shell!!!

Last Tuesday night she leaped up and ran to the front of the kennel when I came to visit her. She sat right down at the door and was waiting for me to pet her. When I entered the kennel she playfully wiggled and wriggled and pranced over, sat down and let me pet her endlessly. She even rolled over for a tummy rub!!!

This is a big change in only a week or working with Tillie -- and as I've said before, I know that the person / people / family that bring Tillie into their home and show her love, will get total devotion, affection and entertainment for many years to come!!!

This dog wandered in to the Hollywood Knolls neighborhood a week or so ago, up Lake Hollywood Drive off Barham Blvd, between Universal and Warner Bros. He had no collar, NO Microchip!!, and has a very bad injury to his snout.

This is Coby. He is 12years old Yellow Lab. He�s not super active (he�s 12) but loves walks and just being with his family. Coby is very obedient and mellow. He is NOT a barker and loves kids. He is even very patient with toddlers that like to lay all over him. He has a very shy personality and is a total lover. He recently lost his pal of 10 years (Maggie died age 15) and now will be separated from the family he has known for 10 years, so he will need a family that will give him plenty of love. His current family has been hit by this wonderful economy and has to move. After searching high and low for months they were unsuccessful in finding a place that would allow Coby.

He is good with other dogs after a warming up period, but his feelings about cats are unknown. The ones that come through the yard he could care less about. We've taken in 20 dogs in the past couple of weeks. Yep, 20. Most of these dogs were last-day dogs (or in Buster's case, last minute), while some were owner turn-ins to us or strays. So many dogs in need ... and now we need your help so we can better assist these dogs.

FOSTERS NEEDED

We have fosters for some of the dogs, but there are still many dogs who need a foster.

We are located in Orange County, but we will gratefully accept fosters in surrounding areas such as Long Beach and even as far south as Encinitas. (Some of our dogs are already in foster down there.)

Hi, everyone:
The sad plight of Velvet, the staffie/mastiff left-behind mom at SLA, has touched so many kind and generous people.

We have $550 in pledges plus the possibility of more to help cover her medical costs as long as she is bailed by a rescue group approved by the donor.

However so far there has been no rescue interest in her, and without that it is not fair to keep her alive when she is suffering in the hope that someone may come forward...or may not.

Velvet has a painful corneal ulcer, bite wounds and a cough which will only get worse in the shelter because so many animals come in sick, and they infect the others.

People always say "we can't save them all," and of course that's true. It's just that some dogs' lives of neglect and abuse permeates every cell of their being; it's written all over them. And those are the most heartbreaking and difficult to see. Velvet is one of those dogs.

I keep thinking about her: too terrified to walk and being wheeled in a rolling cart into the "bump room" where euthanasia waits behind a curtain

Unfortunately until people start accepting responsibility for their "pets", get them spayed and neutered, and are cited and fined if they don't, this is going to keep happening over and over and over.

I want to stress that none of this is the fault of the rank-and-file staff at LAAS. Already understaffed, the hiring freeze has put an extraordinary burden on them as more animals than ever flood into the shelters due to the economic recession. Coupled with cuts which have decimated the medical budget, the demands on the kennel staff, animal control officers in the field, and the veterinary staff is becoming untenable.

I am respectfully you NOT to call to put an IP on Velvet UNLESS you plan to bail her today, Wednesday. It just means another dog will be euthanized instead and will only prolong Velvet's suffering.

However, if you can genuinely get her out today--not tomorrow, and not for spurious reasons--then by all means contact the shelter.

The donations will only go to qualified rescue groups. That means a rescuer who won't send her to Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Canada, down south, to the east coast, the midwest, or some questionable "sanctuary" you haven't visited.

Our health staff has treated Bumbles for an ear infection, and he has recovered nicely. We also have neutered him, fully vaccinated him, and gotten him ready to go home. Remarkably, he has no lasting health problems. Bumbles has certainly not let this rotten situation affect his spirit. He is super sweet and loves people. He sits at the front of the kennel when you go by to see him, and gives you gentle licks when you scratch his chest. He loves attention from everyone, so we�ve been trying to make up for the last two years by giving him as much love as we can! Bumbles doesn�t have a lot of experience with other dogs. I was at the farmer�s market in West LA this weekend and I saw this little guy at a mini mobile adoption that West LA was having. They told me he was red listed with only about a week left. When I asked why they told me it was just because he had been there so long. He is really sweet and affectionate. He is better with other small dogs but can get along with bigger dogs with just a little socialization. While he likes kids, sometimes he gets a little nervous when they are rowdy around him. AURORAS FATE - BAN CHAINS

In Memory of Aurora

And chained dogs everywhere…

This afternoon, a family brought in their 10 month old female golden retriever mix, Aurora . They told us that they had Aurora chained up in their backyard, when, last week, she got tangled up in the chain. Since then, she has been unable to walk or stand. Aurora remained in their backyard with no medical care for an entire week.

The family asked for Aurora to be euthanized.

Aurora was examined and it was found that her back was broken.

She had no feeling in her back legs and could not stand.

We came to the conclusion that it would be the kindest thing

for Aurora to be euthanized.

At 3:45 PM on 7/8/09, Aurora crossed the Rainbow Bridge . She is now running and jumping once again.

Please pass this on as a reminder to everyone not to chain their dogs.

Do not let Aurora ’s death be in vain—let her story live on in order to keep other dogs safe.

Help Give Pets in CA Shelters Time to Find Families

California�s finances are in big, big trouble, and that means that animals entering state-supported animal shelters are in big, big trouble, too.

June is budget month in California, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been traveling the state to talk about the financial crisis as well as his proposed solutions.

Among them, he�s proposed a r eduction in mandated shelter hold times from the current four- to six-day hold back to a maximum required 72-hour hold time for pets entering a shelter. This cost-saving idea has brought forth a flurry of objections from the pet-loving public in recent weeks.

First Thing You Can Do:
Email Governor Schwarzenegger to let him know you oppose any measures that reduces the mandated shelter holding period in California. Make a phone call to his office at 916-445-2841 to voice your opinion, and call your district office to register your opinion there.
Clearly, viewing pets as fiscal waste is the wrong message to send to citizens when humane groups everywhere are working tirelessly to educate the public about responsible pet ownership, puppy mills, adoption alter natives, breed-specific legislation, community cats, spay-neuter, and the empathetic treatment of animals.

Enacting a reduction in mandated shelter hold time will certainly save money, but it will also certainly increase the number of pets euthanized.

Nevertheless, the Governor�s proposals are merely a deeply disturbing symptom of the real solutions that must be pursued in the Golden State and elsewhere. Empathy and responsibility for pets begins at home in local communities, starting with the family and growing through grassroots efforts.

Stu Needs To Go Home

I trust all letter recipients are familiar with Stu, a rescued dog who lived an uneventful five years with Jeff de la Rosa, before de la Rosa entrusted his dogs to an assistant while away for a family emergency.

Under that pet sitter’s care, in August 2005, Stu atypically clashed with another household dog and wound up with a torn ear. It is accepted knowledge that injured animals may react defensively. As the pet sitter slipped a harness over Stu’s hurt ear, the scared dog bit her twice on the arm.

“A couple of puncture wounds,” Commissioner Archie Quincey, a 30-year veteran of L.A. Country Animal Control, would later state. Still, a full month after the incident, the assistant served de la Rosa with a lawsuit and Stu was seized from a locked, backyard kennel. Thus began Stu’s incarceration under L.A. Animal Services (LAAS) and a bureaucratic battle so absurd, Stu’s story has gained worldwide notoriety.

What is the point of keeping this now elderly dog on death row? Dr. Richard Polsky, a co-creator of City criteria for gauging dangerous dogs, and Bobby Dorofshar of New Leash on Life, also a City advisor and one-time member of its Spay/Neuter Advisory Committee — have testified that Stu poses no threat of aggression to humans.

Their conclusion stems from assessment of Stu's pre- and post-incident behavior, plus comprehension of how the victim's actions may have triggered the bites. Dorofshar sheltered Stu at his own facility for many months, during which time he came to know the dog.

Sweet Cody - Give a home - PLEASE.

Cody was found by a volunteer of SC Pit Bull Rescue in March of 2009, eating from a dumpster outside of Gilligan’s Restaurant on Main Road, Johns Island, SC. Lost and Found Dog Ads were searched and posted all over the Charleston area, with no luck. Of course, he does not have a microchip and was not wearing a collar. When we found him, he smelled like he had been living in dumpsters for quite some time.

Now, three months later, Cody’s owners still have not been found. He has been temporarily cared for by a wonderful foster home during the last few months. Cody’s foster mom has recently gotten news that she is being transferred by her employer and she cannot take Cody where she is going.

Please help us find Cody a rescue, sanctuary, or forever home. He is a wonderful boy, big fluffy and sweet. He is not a young pup and the vets think he could possibly be ten years old.

Thanks to another wonderful good Samaritan (thank you Sue!), we know that Cody is heartworm negative. The vets think he has some possible nerve damage in his back legs. He gets around okay, but he’s a slow guy. He has all of his vaccines, and he is neutered.

Cody is about 75 lbs.

Cody is perfectly housetrained and does not need a crate. He doesn’t chew, he doesn’t bark, and he has no known behavioral issues. His foster mom calls him “gentle as a lamb” – he is the definition of gentle.

Cody needs a place to rest his body, to live out his days, and someone to love. This is an amazing dog that would be perfect for anyone who wants a faithful companion to come home to.

Tom & Lazarita - a story about a man and a baby bird.

My sweet friend Tom rescued a baby Robin. This little bird was ready to fly off to that other birdie place in the sky until she met Tom. Her own mom had deserted her. I guess the mom Robin assumed this wee one could not make it - looking as though her neck were broken. Her head literally laying over sideways onto her neck. But Tom never gave up. He made a home for this baby bird which he promptly named Lazarita (play on the name Lazarus). And he began his nurturing of her...digging up worms from his garden every 15 minutes to give this baby bird a chance of survival. And here she is now - head held upright - stretching for a worm bigger than she is and chirping for her new mother - Tom.

There is a lesson in this for all of us.

And of course some of us will feel bad for the worms.

However, I am certain that Tom has gained lots of karmic points for his loving gesture.

Victory for the Greyhounds—Dog Racing Ends in New Hampshire!

Today, we bring you great news!

After years of fighting for stronger greyhound protection laws in New Hampshire, the dogs have finally had their day in the Granite State.

This morning, the last two remaining dog tracks in New Hampshire announced that they are ending greyhound racing, effective immediately. Under a new law passed as part of the state budget, the tracks will be able to continue simulcast gambling without live racing.

This is an incredible victory for everyone who cares about animals, and ends a sad chapter in New Hampshire history. Since 2005 alone, nearly 1,200 greyhounds have been injured while racing in that state, and since dog racing was legalized a generation ago tens of thousands of dogs have endured lives of endless confinement at local tracks. Also, countless dogs have died because they were injured or no longer fast enough to be profitable.

We are proud to say that due to the hard work of many advocates, this cruelty will now apparently end for good!

The campaign for New Hampshire’s greyhounds has been years in the making. In just the past five years, GREY2K USA has led fights to pass a law requiring dog tracks to report on greyhound injuries, repealed several state subsidies for dog racing, and removed a terrible law that excluded greyhounds from the protections of the anti-cruelty law.

Many people worked on these efforts, and while it is impossible to name everyone who deserves recognition, we would like to specially thank GREY2K USA board members Mike Trombley and Paul LaFlamme for their leadership. Great thanks are also due to our New Hampshire supporters who contacted their lawmakers throughout this campaign.

Finally, the fight is still not completely over. We will not rest until greyhound racing is illegal in New Hampshire supporters, and dog racing cannot be resurrected. So please support this ongoing work today by making a generous donation.

Legislate and crackdown on the puppy mills in North Carolina

The North Carolina legislature is currently considering legislation (S. 460) to crack down on puppy mills. Puppy mills are mass production facilities where dogs are stacked in filthy wire cages, with no veterinary care or human interaction, and are treated not like pets but like a cash crop. Meanwhile, puppy mill operators continue to churn out puppies for sale in pet stores, over the Internet, and directly to the public, while depriving the state of millions of dollars in sales and income tax revenues.

A recent puppy mill raid in Wayne County starkly illustrated the financial impact these facilities can have on local resources. The HSUS had to help cover the approximately $75,000 clean-up costs because the county didn't have the money to deal with so many animals in such terrible condition.

You can help change this. S. 460 would require licensing and inspections of puppy mills and would require the establishment of some basic humane standards for those facilities. It is expected to receive a vote in the Senate later this week, and it is critical that your senator hear from constituents who support this bill.

Your state senator, Daniel Clodfelter, is a strong supporter of this bill. Please make a brief phone call to Sen. Clodfelter at (919) 715-8331 to say thanks for supporting this critical legislation. Parvo Puppies - Please, please donate $5

Dear Animal Lovers,

It is with great sadness that I am writing to you all today. I will spare you all of the tragic details but long story short, we have been hit by a devastating wave of parvo. We pulled several puppies trying to save them from being euthanized and now several of them have ended up at the vet fighting for their lives while we struggle to pay for their care.

Luke ended up at the vet with parvo over a week and a half ago, but luckily he recovered fully! His poor little sister Lila then came down with it and has been heroically battling the virus for over a week and a half and is still at the vet. She has lost so much weight but she continues to wag her tail and get up to greet you and she appears to really want to live. She refuses to give up so we have refused to give up on her. As if these two cases were not enough to put us in a state of financial distress, we had another puppy come down with parvo yesterday. Cole has actually already been seen by an adopter who wants to take him home if he can recover. It is one of those puppy miracle stories where he was found on the side of the road in horrible shape, brought to us, and somehow out of all the black lab mix puppies in the world, a wonderful home chose him! We don't feel like his luck has run out so he is now at the vet also diligently fighting to survive.

We decided after a long discussion yesterday that we would have to send out an email asking for financial help. After deliberating with each other yesterday over what care we could actually afford to give Cole we became very distressed that our decisions on whether a puppy should get the chance to live or be put to sleep should have to be based on finances. For those of you not familiar with parvo, it is a terribly nasty and highly contagious disease that claims the lives of puppies all throughout the U.S. When treated there is a high chance the puppy can recover but care for one sick puppy can range anywhere between $600 and $1,000 depending on the length of time the individual puppy needs to hit a turning point.

What is more, the situation is even more urgent. There are still a handful of puppies from that group that could come down with it still. In our current situation, if this happens, we no longer have the option to treat them because there is absolutely NO money left. Sweet and loving puppies do not deserve to spend their first weeks of life in a kennel only to be put to sleep because of a treatable sickness. They should be able to live and enjoy life with their forever family one day and all we are asking is that you help us give them that chance.

We know that times are tough right now and we understand that substantial donations are not an option for most people at this point in time. We want you to know that in our minds $5 is a substantial donation. If everyone on this list sent just $5 then we would be in much better shape and our puppies could be treated.

This is another doggie that I went to evaluate to see if he was as aggressive as the shelter staff claimed (NOT AT ALL) I observed him and considering his age and the fact that he had hardly any teeth left - I said I believe he has major teeth problems and that he is in a lot of pain, well Dr. Triplett was correct – read below….. This dogs life was saved/rescued and put in a foster home all because Dr. Triplett made the proper diagnosis…….. If not no rescue was willing to save him if he in fact was aggressive, this is the 2nd dog that a shelter deemed aggressive and both times they were wrong and I was correct, this saved 2 dogs lives, just taking the time to observe a animal

I received an email today from Narrick's (now RICKY) foster mom. She is saying he was very grouchy last nite but ate some hamburger but after some pain meds and antibiotics, he slept quiety and peacefully last night AND IS NOT GROUCHY THIS MORNING. The swelling in his face has gone down (I didn't realize his face was swollen - huge sign to shelter medical staff he was in pain!) but that is going down to. She will take him to the vet today and I'll pass along the report. Imagine! After only one nite of loving care away from the shelter and he is already feeling better.

I want to thank Tammy and Tia for making the effort to go to the shelter to see him, for Tammy's first evaluation that this was as we thought a dog in pain and for Tia who was obviously right on about what was going on with Ricky's mouth. His foster mom says his mouth is definitely infected and perhaps the infection has gone to his ear! I feel so glad that we pursued his rescue and didn't accept the shelter evaluation.

Thanks again to Blake who was able to get the neuter waiver and get him the hell out of there so fast. We all have something to be grateful for today.

Thank you for sharing your concerns with me about the proposal to lift
restrictions on hold times at animal shelters. I value your input during these challenging economic times.

As you know, we are in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since
the Great Depression. We now face a budget shortfall that has grown to
$24.3 billion. I have proposed cuts that I would have never proposed except in a worst-case scenario, including eliminating General Fund support for programs like Healthy Families, CalWORKs, Cal Grants and State Parks.
This was not an easy decision for me. As a dog owner myself, I have always supported animal welfare and have worked to ensure the humane treatment of animals.

Currently, the state requires all shelters to hold stray animals for
four or six days and reimburses them for the associated costs. To address our budget crisis, I have proposed to suspend some Non-Proposition 98 mandates, including the reimbursement funds for these shelters. To help local shelters deal with the challenges of this difficult budget situation, I have also proposed that the state no longer require the four or six day hold time. Shelters still have the flexibility to keep the animals for more days, but my proposal avoids placing an unnecessary burden on local communities.

As I work with my partners in the Legislature to find solutions to
these problems, know that I will keep your thoughts in mind. Working together, I believe we can weather this storm and start the slow but steady march back toward prosperity.

Family in financial trouble needs help with their family pets.

Hello everyone. I am sending out these photos of my sons two dogs. He has lost his job, and home and has moved to Texas to try and find work. He is in an apartment and cannot take his dogs. This is very sad. I have until sometime in July to find them a home. They do not need to stay together.
The female "Heart" is spayed. She is 7 I think. The male Sammy is 4, and not fixed. They are good with kids, and other animlas, but not so sure about small animals.
The are purebreed queenleens heelers. I may try and take the female, but I have three dogs and I am legally over my limit where I live, plus I have cats.
He will pay to have the dogs shots current and Sammy fixed.
Its very, very, sad.
I will get their exact dates of birth. I just dont have it right now.

While millions of viewers watch this year's Belmont Stakes, former champions like Charismatic and War Emblem are half a world away in Japan. Thousands of other less famous U.S.-bred thoroughbreds have also been exported overseas for breeding and racing. When they are no longer useful, most of these horses will be slaughtered.

PETA undercover investigators have recorded exclusive footage in a Japanese horse slaughterhouse, in which 4,500 horses are killed and cut up each year—many of them racehorses—to be made into food for dogs and humans. Slaughterhouses such as the Kumamoto Shokuniku Center, which was exposed by our investigators, are often the last stop in a system that routinely produces tens of thousands of "surplus" thoroughbreds each year because there is no plan for what to do with them after their racing or breeding days are over.

Ten years ago Charismatic won the 125th Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. He nearly went on to win horse racing's Triple Crown before he tragically broke his leg near the finish line at the Belmont Stakes. Unlike Barbaro, Eight Belles, and the more than 1,000 U.S. racehorses who suffer fatal breakdowns on the track every year, Charismatic survived and was sold soon after like a commodity and exported to Japan for breeding purposes.

While millions of viewers watch this year's Belmont Stakes, Charismatic—half a world away and with his value as a stallion plummeting—could be facing the same fate as fellow Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand, who was slaughtered for dog food at the end of an unsuccessful stud career in Japan.

In 2008, more than 100,000 American-bred horses were exported to Canada, Mexico, and Japan and slaughtered for meat—many of these were thoroughbreds.

For Charismatic, War Emblem, and the tens of thousands of less famous racehorses who face slaughter, please take the three actions to the right of this letter. While racing fans are glued to media coverage surrounding the Belmont Stakes, there is no better time to make a difference in the lives of thousands of horses. Thank you.

Please help end the abusive practice of transporting horses by double-decker trailers and stop the slaughter of horses for human consumption! Contact your United States Representative today and ask him or her to support H.R. 305 and H.R. 503.

These two important bills have recently been introduced in Congress and need the support of your United States Representative:

The Horse Transportation Safety Act of 2009 (H.R. 305) will ban the use of double-decker livestock trailers in the interstate transportation of horses. While current law prohibits the use of these trailers in transporting horses to slaughter, a loophole exists that allows their transportation to any other non-slaughter location, e.g. feedlots, auctions and other facilities. These low-ceiling double-decker trailers were not designed for horses, and horses forced onto them must endure having their heads bent over for hours upon hours in overcrowded conditions while suffering a high risk of sustaining injury or even death.

The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 503) will end the slaughter of horses for human consumption and the domestic and international transport of live horses or horseflesh for human consumption. Currently, tens of thousands of horses are transported to international destinations to suffer inhumane slaughter in order to please the palates of those in other countries who consume horses. The predecessor to this bill came very close to being passed during the last session of Congress, and now is the time to ensure this bill becomes law.

Please contact your United States Representative today and ask him or her to support H.R. 305 and H.R. 503.

Let Congress know that joining your voice are the voices of over a quarter of a million people who have signed ALDF's Animal Bill of Rights, supporting the belief that horses, and all animals, should be free from exploitation and abuse by humans.

Hulk Gets A Home - another happy ending

Sorry for the delay in writing. It's been a pretty busy weekend. In March I answered a plea from Candy Weil/ ACO in the Banning Shelter to get this fantastic guy out of there. He was the shelter'sfavourite. On 7 March, I drove down to Riverside (the spay and neuter clinic) to meet and get Hulk. Hulk was boarded at Marc's and became my weekend dog. We would go on hikes, to Venice,to my home and even a sleep over. Steve Spiro found a great foster because I felt Hulk needed a family. In fact I visualized the family. Simply they were going to love him MORE than me which wouldbe a hard act to follow. I was contacted by Mo and spoke about Hulk to him. I had a sense. He has a wife that's loves dogs and takes walks, a nine year old son, and Buddy Holly the Beagle.

Somehow I knew, somehow he knew. When I met them last Sunday, I met this very warm loving family. My wishes have come true. Since Michele Johnson was instrumental in assisting me in pulling, she did the homecheck in San Marcos. I decided Hulk and I would take the road trip to his new home so we could have our one-on-one time.

It was so exciting, the home, the yard, they were excited to show me his new bed, his new watering dishes, I met the neighbors with three dogs. OMG. We went to dinner, an outdoor place so they could bring Hulk/Enzo. People kept stopping admiring him. The family was beaming, Enzo was beaming, I was beaming!

HULK won the Lottery and changed his old name to Enzo to represent a new beginning.

Additionally we also found out he's not a Cane Corso. Right now we're thinking Saint Bermastiff or possibly Boerboel (South African Mastiff).... A name change and a breed change , go figure.......

Congress Must Act to Protect Former Pets from Research
The National Academies' Institute for Laboratory Animal Research, which advises the federal government and the public on issues related to the use of animals in research, recently released a report entitled “Scientific and Humane Issues in the Use of Random-Source Dogs and Cats in Research.” AAVS commends the National Academies for finding that random source animals from Class B dealers are not necessary for NIH related research. AAVS encourages Congress to go further by eliminating the use of all random source animals in research.

Let your Senators and Representative know that random source Class B dealers should be outlawed and the practice of taking animals directly from pounds to use in research (pound seizure) should be banned.

Unfortunately, ILAR indicated that it may be acceptable for research and education facilities to obtain animals directly from shelters. This is a fact that should be of great concern for animal guardians and animal advocates alike.

Pound seizure has been outlawed in nearly one third of states, but three states (Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Utah) legally require publicly-funded shelters and pounds to provide dogs and cats for research, such as experimentation and terminal education exercises, and other states allow it. Equally disturbing, the ILAR report emphasized that the pounds most likely to provide animals to research laboratories are those that are poorly funded, overcrowded with animals, and/or have weak adoption programs. However, pound seizure should not be considered a solution to the cat and dog overpopulation problem, and research laboratories should not prey upon weak shelters and pounds.

In recent years, there have been documented cases of pets, believed to be lost, who became the unfortunate victims of pound seizure. One such example is Cruella, a dog found in a small Michigan town by a local pound and then given to a random source Class B dealer. The dealer sold Cruella to the University of Florida, where she was killed after being used in seven education procedures over seven months. According to documents obtained by AAVS, Cruella was found wearing a purple collar, and a surgical procedure at the university found that she was spayed, indicating that she was once someone’s pet. While it may be difficult to imagine animals who once lived in loving homes being confined within a laboratory cage, it is the harsh reality for thousands of cats and dogs, like Cruella, every year. We need your help to end this betrayal!

What you can do!
Please contact your federal legislators and urge them to support legislation that would prohibit the sale of random source animals for use in research, testing, and education. Tell them that former pets do not belong in research facilities.

STOP PUPPY MILLS

The Humane Society of the United States' offensive against puppy mills continues. Just yesterday, we arrived on the scene at an Indiana puppy mill, where we found more than 200 dogs in grossly overcrowded conditions. Under the temporary care of our emergency shelter, the resiliant animals already are showing signs of improvement.

Last week, local law enforcement and The HSUS rescued nearly 400 dogs from the horrific confines of a puppy mill operation known as the Sun Valley Kennel in Kennewick, Wash. We're now busy moving these animals to local shelters, where they’ll be adopted.

Meanwhile, we've been on the ground around the clock for two weeks in Wisconsin, tending to more than 300 dogs rescued from yet another mass breeding operation.

And as if all that weren't enough, earlier in the week we raided two major dogfighting operations in eastern Alabama.

This is a remarkable pace of activity. Sadly, these missions are a common occurrence for our rescue teams. Many of the dogs suffered from malnutrition, urine burns, and overgrown nails.

Save Baby Elephants in Malawi From Being Gunned Down

The elephants - in a desperate search for food and water - are raiding storage areas and feuding with human communities. Villagers are putting down nail-bedded planks and setting snare traps that cut through the elephants' skin - leaving gaping wounds in their legs and trunks.

Three of the elephants have already had their trunks amputated by these vicious snares.

Now authorities plan to execute the entire herd if it is not moved from the area.

IFAW has located a perfect spot for the elephants in a park called the Majete Wildlife Reserve. The animals that used to live there were poached to extinction, but the Malawi government has made the new park a protected sanctuary - an ideal place for these threatened elephants.

Unfortunately, Majete is over 100 miles away - so moving these giants will be a monumental task.

In order to transport over a half-million pounds of elephant 100 miles, we're going to need major equipment, brute strength, a lot of animal-moving expertise, and funding to help pay for this urgent move.

Purchase the medicine needed to safely sedate the elephants - so they don't hurt themselves or the handlers.

Owners dropped her off on Friday to be euthanized. We refused when we couldn’t find much worth putting her down for and had the owner surrender her to us.

The Story!
All we’ve found (and fixed) so far is ear infection (from neglected ears) & diarrhea (probably from being on crappy food – pardon the pun). Also, she has a rash or irritation on her belly (which is healing up nicely with meds).

The Best Part!
She’s very sweet, mild mannered, smart and trained, walks well off leash and the whole nine…this girl is a *CATCH*. She came from a home with children and does well around the other dog she’s been hanging out with at her temporary home from this past week-end. She also loves a bath (she’s had a few oatmeal baths to ease the itch of this little belly rash) and doesn’t mind being combed out etc…

Let me know if you know of anyone with a soft spot for a beautiful shepherd.

Good News For Animals - especially Buxton

While you may frequently hear about PETA's massive victories, such as influencing the European Union's recent decision to ban seal fur, there are plenty of smaller, less headline-grabbing ways that your support makes a difference in animals' lives every single day.

A PETA staffer spotted Buxton the pup roaming the streets of Suffolk, Virginia, a city near PETA's Norfolk offices. Just a few weeks old when he was found, he had already been a victim of abuse. A harness that had been placed on him at an early age was left on him as he grew, and it caused a wound that became severely infected.

PETA took Buxton to an emergency veterinarian, who surgically removed the embedded harness and treated his deep cuts. PETA immediately set out to discover who was responsible for the disturbing negligence that had caused this sweet, energetic young pup so much pain. Within three days of finding Buxton, our caseworkers identified the people responsible for his suffering and filed cruelty-to-animals charges against them.

In mid-April, thanks to PETA's careful documentation and testimony, both abusers—a mother and son—were convicted of cruelty to animals for the pain that they had allowed little Buxton to suffer. Their sentence includes not only fines and restitution for Buxton's expensive medical care but also a permanent prohibition from owning or possessing companion animals!

His wounds now healed, Buxton romps happily in the yard of the loving family that adopted him.

Every day, from back yards to shareholder meetings to courtrooms, PETA is making a difference in the lives of countless individual animals like Buxton thanks to your support. Leona - a happy ending for a story that started out sad.

A few of months ago, when Leona was just a very little girl, it appears that someone with an evil sense of humor decided to disfigure this little boxer cross puppy. Not only were her ears cut off, but her nose was removed. I know, you'd really prefer not to hear about this, but there is no way to her the story, except to make it even worse, and I don't want to go there.

After I sent an email out looking for a suitable home for Leona, I got lots of response. Our very own puppy lady, Carole Kingaby, who is always a very easy mark, took Leona temporarily, until the right person came along; and even then I knew that Carole just might not want to part with her. But you know what Carole said...."If I don't let her go, then I won't have room at my house for another puppy in need." Love that!

Last Monday, Leona and I, met up with Lizette Schley, a very committed animal lover from LA, that drove all the way to San Diego to meet Leona, and take her home. This is a picture of Leona stretched out in the pansies in front of the Motel 6 by the airport.

I just contacted my state representatives asking them to help put an end to dogfighting by making such crimes easier to prosecute and punishable by stronger penalties. I urge you to do the same!

Michael Vick, ex-quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, was released from prison on May 20 after serving 23 months for financing "Bad Newz Kennels," his dogfighting operation, and viciously killing dogs that his kennel used in fights. Sadly, unlike the high-profile Michael Vick case, most cases of dogfighting go unnoticed by the media, and find dogfighters receiving weak sentences if convicted.

Applied to animal fighting, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (commonly referred to as "RICO") - which was originally designed to be a weapon against a wide variety of organized criminal efforts, including drug dealing and gambling - would give prosecutors increased muscle in seeking justice for the animals abused, and, as in the Vick case, even executed by their owners.

Take action now to help put an end to dogfighting! Send a letter to your state representatives in one easy-click, urging them to support tougher dogfighting laws.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Franklin, Tennessee (May 21, 2009) -- Today, Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO® dry cat food.

This issue was identified during an audit of our documentation from the supplier. An extensive review confirmed that only these two premixes were affected. This recall does not affect any NUTRO® dog food products, wet dog or cat food, or dog and cat treats.

Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Israel. We are working with all of our distributors and retail customers, in both the US and internationally, to ensure that the recalled products are not on store shelves. These products should not be sold or distributed further.

Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. While we have received no consumer complaints related to this issue, cat owners should monitor their cat for symptoms, including a reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, please contact your veterinarian.
